Moon Shadow- Moon Shadow is most definitely a main character from the story because the story is told from his perspective. His personality is very round because his personality is like a spectacle. Like him being curious in the way that he is constantly looking around new places and about meeting his father as well as when he is brave when he meets the “demons” in San Francisco. He is also a very dynamic character because through-out the story he changes his mindset and physical self. Moon Shadow begins the story as a slim tiny eight year old. He ends the story as a strong, built, and mature fourteen-year-old boy who lives with his father in a different nation than he when started. Moon Shadow is very dynamic because he begins the story as a curious, weak, and slightly stubborn child. He ends the story as a more mature, secure, and observant young man. His life’s ambition is to live with his father and his mother while helping his father pursue his dream of flight.

Windrider- Windrider is Moon Shadow’s father as well as a main character. I believe that Windrider is one of the roundest characters that there are in the book. However, the parts of him that make him round are very static until the very last part of the last chapter. Windrider is probably a man in his forties. He is also lean and lanky as well as very courageous and very protective. An example of that is after Black Dog attacks Moon Shadow for the first time, Windrider comes out and beats-up Black Dog. He is also very passionate about his culture. His emotional aspects as well as his physical aspects show that he is passionate about his culture. An example of that is when he wears his queue. His ambition is to pass his tests to once again become a dragon and to fly once more.

Miss. Whitlaw- Miss Whitlaw is most definitely a main character because she is the one who cares for Windrider and Moon Shadow in SanFrancisco. More importantly, she is with them when the earthquake strikes. Miss Whitlaw is a very round character although she is also a static one. She begins the story as a kind, considerate, giving, and intelligent woman. She ends in the story the same way that she started. It’s a lucky thing that she is a static person although that is not so good in most cases. Miss Whitlaw is a gray-haired white lady with a crinkle-around-the-edges-smile. She is also thin but surprisingly fast and strong. She is also a mentally sound person because of the way that she does not flip out and go psycho when the earthquake strikes. Her emotions are kind but she is a tough woman and like Windrider once said, “She is a superior woman”. It is never clearly stated but, I believe that her ambition is to raise Robin, her niece, to be a kind and intelligent young girl.

Uncle Bright Star (Uncle) - Uncle is another main character from the book. His most important role in the story is as the head figure of Windrider and Moon Shadow’s first home. He is also the father of the villain, Black Dog. Uncle is a very round character, both metaphorically and physically. He is very stubborn as well as being secretly caring and compassionate. Uncle is one of the most remarkably dynamic characters in the book because of his change of not believing in Windrider’s dream, to believing in Windrider’s dream towards the end of the book. He is a very large and old man. As I said before, he secretly cares for his friends and family.

Robin- Robin is a minor/main character from the book. She is not spoken of as much as the other characters, but on the other hand, she teaches Moon Shadow how to read and write in English. Without Robin, he couldn’t have contacted the Wright brothers. Robin is a bit of a flat character; she simply loves healthy competition and fun. She is also a static character because she doesn’t seem to change much from the beginning of the story. Emotionally, Robin is a happy child, physically, Robin has some scars and bruises but is otherwise a healthy child. She also has flaming golden-red hair. I do not believe that she has much ambition besides having fun as a child.

Black Dog- Black Dog is a minor character. He is also a flat character. He likes having lots of and enjoys smoking opium. Black Dog is an extremely static character as well as flat one. In Chinatown he beats up Moon Shadow for money to buy more opium. Even now, he also threatens to slit Moon Shadow’s throat for money to buy even more opium. Physically, he is a mess with all of the drugs in his system. Emotionally, he probably feels nothing more than the constant yearning for more opium. His current life ambition is probably to smoke more opium than any other Chinaman.
